We’ll not vote for governors who refuse to pay N30,000 — PENSIONERS

IBADAN— THE NIGERIA Union of Pensioners, South West Zone, yesterday, called on its members nationwide not to vote for any state governor who refuses to pay the N30,000 minimum wage demanded by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

The Union threatened to stage a peaceful protest if the current hard stance of the governors is not changed on the minimum wage.
The call was made by the leader of NUP, Chief Kessington Odukola during the end of the year meeting of the union, which held at the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Secretariat, Agbarigo Onireke Ibadan.
Speaking through the Secretary of the union in Oyo State, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, the zonal leader said: “Pension should be concomitantly increased at any time wages and salaries are increased, or every five years or whichever comes earlier.
“We use this medium to alert all pensioners in the South West and beyond that street demonstration and all forms of protests should commence if this increase is not paid to pensioners.
“Our union President wants us all to be wary of whom to vote for in the general election. Pensioners must shun candidates that are not ready to pay pensions and gratuities as and when due. We are not voting for any party but a credible personality.
“We are not going to shun voting exercise in 2019, but we will rather be stakeholders to see to the peaceful conduct of the election.”
