Anambra State Commissioner For Children And Women Affairs, Reiterates Her Disapproval Of Child Labour, Rescues Child Beggars From The Streets Of Awka.

In demonstration of her commitment to end child labour in Anambra State, the Honorable Commissioner For Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, few days ago rescued some children who were aiding a number visually impaired persons in seeking alms from the streets of Awka.

 The school aged children numbering about four, were spotted at different locations in Awka, while adding their parents to beg for alms during school hours.

Lady Mezue, whom since her appointment as the Commissioner For Children and Women Affairs, insisted that, there will be zero tolerance on Child Labour In Anambra State, swung into action on sighting the children begging at major junctions in Awka. In her usual compassionate way, she approached the children and their accomplice, took time to educate them on dangers of having their kids out of school and begging during school hours.

The Honorable Commissioner, soon after educating the parents of the children, provided on spot assistance to them, she consequently, offered to support the children education for up-to two years. Following the agreement reached by the Honorable Commissioner and the parents of the children,  some of them were immediately repatriated back to their home states, to continue their disrupted education. 

It will recalled  that the Honorable Commissioner For Children and Women Affairs,  few months ago inuagrated an action committee on Child Labour, the inuagration was followed up with a road show to create awareness on dangers associated with child labour and the ministries readiness to tackle the menace head on, in line with the vision and mission of the Governor of Anambra State His Excellency, Chief Willie M Obiano.
