Restructuring Will Promote Unity In Nigeria - Amuta

By Egbuna Amuta

Nigerians have been implored to remain steadfast and optimistic about the unity and future of the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Media Mobilization, Mr. Egbuna Amuta, gave this charge yesterday during an enlightenment programme organized by the Justice Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC, at Saint Mary's Catholic Parish, Inland Town, Onitsha.

Delivering a lecture on "True Federalism: A Catalyst for National Unity," Mr. Amuta, noted that most of the six geopolitical zones and majority of Nigerian citizens fervently want the present political system in the country to be restructured.

He recalled that Nigeria practiced true federal system of government to the delight and satisfaction of the citizenry before the intervention of the military in the country's political affairs in 1966.

The Governor's grassroots media mobiliser maintained that return to true federalism would go a long way to reduce political tension and instability in the country.

Mr. Amuta also contended that when most Nigerian ethnic nationalities begin to feel that they are not being dominated or suppressed by another, the country would once again witness socioeconomic prosperity as was the case before the federal system of government in Nigeria was distorted since 1966.

Most participants at the JDPC seminar agreed that Restructuring of the Nigerian Federation would ultimately enhance the unity of the country.
